To obtain a new hydroxamic acid derivative in which a benzyl group containing an acetic acid derivative residue at the 2-position is bonded to an oxygen atom or a nitrogen atom which is not an oxime type, useful as an agricultural and horticultural fungicide.
This compound is shown by formula I [J is a group of formula II (R1 is a lower alky, etc.; R2 is H, a lower alkyl, etc.; G is O or S), etc.; Y is O or NH; Z is N or CH] such as methyl-2-[2-benzyloxyiminomethyloxymethyl) phenyl]-2-methoxyiminoacetate. A compound of formula III is reacted with a compound of formula IV (W is a halogen, etc.) in the presence of an acid binder (e.g. sodium hydroxide) in a proper solvent or in the absence of a solvent to give the objective compound of formula I.
