To obtain a rubber blend suitably used to form a highly reinforced abrasion-resistant molding by incorporating at least one hydroxyl-containing solution-polymerized rubber synthesized from a diolefin and monomers.
The hydroxyl-containing solution-polymerized rubber contains 0.1-5 wt.% combined hydroxyl groups. It is desirable that a solution containing a hydroxyl-containing solution-polymerized rubber is mixed with 0.5-500 pts.wt., per 100 pts.wt. rubber filler being oxide or silicate in an organic solvent, and the solvent is removed from the mixture by treatment with steam. The diolefin is desirably 1,3-butadiene or isoprene, and the aromatic monomer is desirably styrene. A vulcanized rubber article made from a rubber blend prepared by mixing the solution-polymerized rubber with a filler and, optionally, other rubbers and rubber aids exhibits particularly high abrasion resistance. This can be used to produce a silica-filled tire tread needed to have particularly high wet grip and low rolling resistance.
