Title:
PRODUCTION OF MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0628669
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a magnetic recording medium excellent in lubricity, durability, running property and wear resistance by forming a chemically adsorbed film contg. fluorocarbon groups on the surface of a magnetic recording medium through siloxane bonds in a vapor phase.

CONSTITUTION: A layer 13 of an inorg. oxide such as SiO2 is formed on a thin ferromagnetic metal film 12 formed on a nonmagnetic substrate and the resulting magnetic recording medium is exposed to vapor of a chemical adsorbent such as heptadecafluorodecyltrichlorosilane 14, allowed to stand in the air and brought into a reaction with moisture. By this reaction, a chemically adsorbed film 16 contg. fluorocarbon groups can be formed on the surface of the magnetic recording medium through siloxane bonds 15 (covalent bonds).
