PURPOSE: To obtain a thermoplastically workable copolymer capable of being composted by incorporating a specified amt. of partially crystalline soft segments formed from an aliphatic ester having a melting temp. in a specified rang and amorphous hard segments.
CONSTITUTION: The thermoplastically workable copolymer capable of being composited, consists of partially crystalline soft segments formed from an aliphatic ester having 30-200°C melting temp. and amorphous hard segments. The soft segments occupy 70-95 wt.% of the total amt. The copolymer has an average mol.wt.(Mw) of 15,000-1,000,000. When 1 g of the copolymer is put in 250 ml ASTM nutritious salt soln. of pH 6.8 with 2 ml extract of gardening compost inoculated and the soln. is shaken at 37°C and 220 r.p.m. while introducing air, at least 30 mg/l biomass is formed within two weeks.
