PURPOSE: To obtain a formed carbonized material exhibiting small dimensional change, resistant to collapse and having high dimensional stability and carbonization ratio by forming a composition containing a specific cured material powder and carbonizing the formed product.

CONSTITUTION: This formed carbonized material is produced from a composition containing powder of a cured phenolic resin obtained preferably by crushing the sprues or defective molded products generating in the molding of a phenolic resin molding material. The composition is preferably incorporated with an organic filler and/or an inorganic filler (e.g. cellulosic organic filler), formed and carbonized to obtain the subject material.
