Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a new agent for preventing adhesion of pathogenic fungus, having a preventive effect for infectious diseases caused by a pathogenic fungus, especially pathogenic colibacillus or a cariogenic fungus and entirely free from a problem about safety. CONSTITUTION:This agent for preventing adhesion of pathogenic fungus contains lactoferrin or its derivative degraded by protease as the active component. The used lactoferrin is isolated from a secretion such as milk of cow, buffalo, goat or human. In the case it is treated with protease, the degradation must be limited not so as to remarkably reduce the molecular weight of the degraded material. Remarkable reduction of the molecular weight reduces the effect. Lactoferrin or its derivative degraded by protease can prevent adhesion of a pathogenic fungus to the tissue such as the tooth, the skin or the intestinal tube and effectively control infection with the pathogenic fungus. Addition of lactoferrin or its derivative degraded by protease can provide a non-toxic beverage, feed, medicine, cosmetic, etc., having an anti-adhesion effect against pathogenic fungi at low cost and enables prevention of dental caries, dermatitis and food poisoning.
