PURPOSE: To increase battery capacity by improving a current collecting structure of a negative electrode in a cylindrical hydride secondary battery.
CONSTITUTION: A positive electrode 1 including metal oxide or metal hydride, a negative electrode 2 including hydrogen storage alloy powder, and a separator 3 to be provided between these electrodes 1, 2 are wound spirally to compose an electrode 4. This spiral electrode 4 is contained in a negative electrode can 5 with electrolyte comprising alkaline solution, a current collector exposed part 2a of the negative electrode 2 positioned on the outermost circumference of this spiral electrode 4 is applied to get in contact with an inner circumferential surface of the negative electrode can 5, and a sealing body is provided at an aperture part of the can. The current collector exposed part 2a is compressed in the thickness direction of the negative electrode 2 to be formed thin.
