Abstract:
An apparatus for controlling ink supply in an ink fountain (IF) for offset pritning press includes: an ultrasonic transducer (XD) that receives an electrical signal and produces an ultrasonic wave (TW) that is directed onto the ink fountain, and is reflected back to the tranduscer in a time dependent upon the depth of the ink in the fountain. The transducer produces a signal in response to this reflected echo (RE). A microprocessor (CE) controls the generation of said electrical signl fed to the transducer (XD) includes a program responsive to the time occurrence of said transmitted and reflected signals for determining the ink level of said ink fountain. A control valve (CV) is operated by a signal from the microprocessor in such a manner as to maintain a constant ink level in the fountain.
