PURPOSE: To efficiently remove chlorine component and nitrogen component from an aluminum dross ash by heating the ash at a specified temp. in a steam- contg. atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: A burner 4 is ignited to heat the inside of rotary kiln 2 to a specified temp., the kiln is rotated at a specified rotational speed, the water in a water bath 12 is simultaneously heated, and air is supplied through an air inlet pipe 11 to generate saturated steam, which is supplied to the kiln 2. An aluminum dross ash D is continuously charged under such conditions from a hopper 3, and the burner 4 is controlled to keep the inside of the kiln 2, at 700°C at least. Consequently, the ash is heated to a specified temp. and agitated, the chlorine component and nitrogen component are efficiently removed at a heating temp. lower than usual, and a harmless treated material is obtained.
