PURPOSE: To obtain a treating effect even if an upper surface treating device is put in an avoidance condition by controlling a car washer by a control means in such a way that the upper surface treating device is raised according to avoidance start input and is held in refuge height given by a setting means and is lowered more than a holding position according to avoidance release input.

CONSTITUTION: After a top brush 6 passes through a position of a projecting material P, and when a 'raising and lowering' key is pushed over and over again, the top brush 6 is lowered, and is returned to a normal position according to upper surface shape data. When a main body 1 reaches an avoidance position P3', the top brush 6 is raised to a stored raising and lowering position H2, and when the body reaches an avoidance position P1', it is lowered, and is returned to a normal brushing position. The top brush 6 is raised or lowered similarly along an upper surface shape, and carries out also avoidance operations in stored avoidance positions P1 and P3, and avoids to the raising and lowering position H2. An upper surface blower nozzle 8 finds positions P1", H2" and P3" where the avoidance operations are carried out by means of a control board according to the stored avoidance position data P1, H2 and P3, and the avoidance operations are carried out automatically.
