Abstract:

PURPOSE:To utilize effectively exhaust gas for preheating scrap by introducing the gas into a gas combustion tower having air introducing holes and by burning CO while slowly blowing air. CONSTITUTION:Scrap Sc is charged into a furnace 1 contg. molten iron 10. A carbonaceous material C and gaseous oxygen are blown into the furnace 1 to burn the material C, and the scrap Sc is melted by the heat of combustion. Exhaust gas contg. much CO generated by the burning is introduced into a gas combustion tower 5 having plural air introducing holes 51 in steps. In the tower 5, CO is burned while slowly blowing air contg. O2 by a slightly smaller amount than one equiv., and the temp. of the exhaust gas is maximized at a point B. The exhaust gas is brought into contact with scrap Sc in a heating shaft 3 to preheat the scrap Sc.
