PURPOSE: To provide a YAG laser oscillator which takes less time for a high voltage to be applied to a Pockels cell than conventional oscillators of the same type, diminishing damages to the Pockels cell and prolonging the life thereof.
CONSTITUTION: A Pockels cell 3, a solid-state laser medium 4, and a polarizer 5 are set up in this order between a rear mirror 1 and an output mirror 2, having mirror surfaces of high reflectance. A lamp 7 for photo-excitation, a Q switching power supply 10 to impress a 1/4 wavelength voltage periodically on the Pockels cell 3, and a laser power supply 12 for the lamp 7 for excitation are provided on a solid-state laser medium 4. Impressing voltage on the Pockels cell 3 by the Q switching power supply 10 starts virtually simultaneously in synchronization with the lighting start of the lamp 7 for excitation. The time interval for impressing a voltage periodically on the Pockels cell 3 can be set under 5% per period.
