Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the subject copolymer, consisting of respective specific two kinds of recurring units, containing terminal ethylenically unsaturated groups, suitable as an emulsifying agent for emulsion polymerization and capable of providing an emulsified polymer emulsion excellent in mechanical stability with low foaming. CONSTITUTION:The objective copolymer, obtained by polymerizing, e.g. 2- oxazolines (e.g. 2-oxazoline) and/or 2-oxazines (e.g. 2-butyl-2-oxazine) using a compound (e.g. a compound expressed by formula I (W is Cl, etc.), containing an ethylenically unsaturated group (e.g. a group expressed by formula II) and having leaving groups (e.g. sulfonic acid group) at terminals as a polymerization initiator, containing recurring units expressed by formula III (R1 is H or 1-3C alkyl; a is 2 or 3) and formula IV (R2 is 4-22C alkyl, alkenyl, etc.; b is 2 or 3) preferably at (1/10)-(10/1) weight ratio and having terminal ethylenically unsaturated groups and preferably 800-8000 molecular weight.
