PURPOSE: To provide an improved method for oxidizing an olefin.
CONSTITUTION: Acarboxylic acid mixture is prepared by oxidizing an olefin having from 16 to 70 carbon atoms by chromic acid/sulfuric acid by an one-step or a multi-step method in at least one reactor having a narrow residence time spectrum. This mixture is further treated with a monoalcohol or polyol such as glycol, glycerin, trimethylol propane, pentaerythritol or sorbitol to obtain an ester or a partial ester or a mixture of these esters. The corresponding carboxylic acid soap is prepared through a direct reaction or a trans precipitation, using a basic oxide or a metal hydroxide. Through a reaction with an amine or an amino alcohol, an amide, an amide ester or an amino ester is obtained. These products are light-colored, has a good heat-stability and is widely applicable.
