Abstract:
PURPOSE:To select an appropriate combustion mode according to an operation condition, by making the opening of an opening/closing valve provided at a connection opening for connecting the main and sub chambers of a combustion chamber, variable at a plurality of stages, by means of electromagnetic force, and conducting the opening/closing control of the connection opening on the basis of an engine rotation number and an engine load. CONSTITUTION:A rotation detecting means 72 which detects the rotation number of an internal combustion engine, and a load detecting means 73 which detects the load of the internal combustion engine, are provided. A command is issued to a valve system 8 on the basis of detection signals from these detecting means 72, 73, and the opening/closing control of an opening/closing valve 5 is made by means of a controlling means 7. As a result the operation of an engine is changed over to a direct injection mode or a sub-chamber injection mode according to a load, and moreover, control is done so that even at the sub- chamber injection mode, the generation of air mixture may become appropriate according to an engine rotation number.
