CONSTITUTION: In the vicinity of the outer periphery of a cylindrically formed image carrier 3, at least, a latent image forming means, a developing and cleaning means 5 attracting and holding magnetic developer containing magnetic toner, having a function for developing a latent image on the surface of the image carrier 3 simultaneously with removing the residual developer on the surface of the carrier 3, and provided with a magnet roll 8, and a transfer means 6 transferring the developed image on the surface of the image carrier 3 on a recording material are installed, and also a fixing means 9 for thermally fixing the developed image on the recording material is installed to constitute an image forming unit 1. The carrier 3 and the roll 8 are formed so that the outer diameters of the carrier 3 and the roll 8 are ≤40mm and ≤30mm, respectively, and the unit 1 is formed so that the height thereof is ≤110mm.
