PURPOSE: To decrease the difference in recording and reproduced output characteristics between two pieces of magnetic heads with the magnetic head device having two pieces of these magnetic heads, of which the magnetic gaps face the positions varying in the distance from the center of rotation with respect to a magnetic recording medium.
CONSTITUTION: The magnetic gap G1 of the one magnetic head H0 of the magnetic heads holding a disk D therebetween exists in the position apart from the center 0 of rotation of the disk D and the magnetic gap G1 of the other magnetic head H1 exists in the position near the center O of rotation of the disk D. The sliding speed of the disk D varies in the respective positions of the magnetic gaps and, therefore, a difference arises in the recording and reproduced outputs of both magnetic heads HO and H1. The difference in the outputs between the magnetic head H0 and H1 is, thereupon, adjusted by making the roughness of the sliding contact surface of the magnetic head H0 higher than the roughness of the sliding contact surface of the magnetic head H1. The lowering of the starting torque of the disk D is possible as well by adequately selecting the surface roughness of the sliding contact surfaces of the respective magnetic heads H0, H1.
