Abstract:
In the automatic process to join a fibre web to a sliver, such as at a card, the web is advanced at a unified speed in the start phase, and is brought together by a collection funnel into a sliver at the splicing stage. The sliver is severed above the carrier system, and the projecting sliver end from the funnel is moved with the funnel and/or the take-off rollers are moved to bring the projecting sliver end into the gap between the take-off rollers. The web carrier mechanism (9) is below the roller assembly (6, 7, 8), vertically or at an angle, and the sliver carrier, together with the collection funnel (10), is below the web carrier (9) and above the pair of take-off rollers (11a, 11b). The web carrier has at least one pair of rollers and static guide surfaces, or at least one conveyor belt. The sliver carrier has a pair of roller or a suction unit with an extractor at its outlet to remove loose fibres. The take-off rollers (11a, 11b) have a grooved and a sprung roller. At least one side wall of the funnel (10) is movable, and a slit through the funnel side wall is fitted with a closure. A clamp in the funnel (10) severs the sliver. The position of the funnel (10) can be shifted at right angles to the feed rollers and the take-off rollers (11a, 11b), and can be moved to and fro horizontally. The feed rollers and the take-off rollers (11a, 11b) can be moved horizontally in both directions. The feed rollers and take-off rollers are mounted coaxially to each other, and the take-off rollers (11a, 11b) act as the press rollers for the sliver can guide, and the funnel acts as the sliver guide to the can guide with measurement pincers to determine variations in silver thickness.
