Title:
KEYLESS CHUCK
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH068015
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a keyless chuck improved in operability and function and simplified in structure.

CONSTITUTION: The keyless chuck 10 has a spring connection between a nut 50 rotating to advance or retreat a jaw 40 and a control ring 80 or sleeve 110 rotated to operate the chuck by a user. The spring 140 normally transmits tightening or loosening rotation from the sleeve 110 to the nut 50. When the jaw 40 contacts a tool, however, the spring 140 allows the sleeve to continue to rotate even though the nut is stopped by the contact between the jaw and the tool. The continued rotation of the sleeve relative to the nut causes a cam mechanism interposed between these two elements to force out the non-rotating nut axially forward. This imparts a final tool-gripping force to the jaw 40.
