PURPOSE: To realize gas-liquid mixing operation useful not only at a single optical liquid level but also in the broad range of liquid levels.
CONSTITUTION: A vessel is provided with stacked upper and lower draft tubes 2, 3 and a shaft 4 drives upper and lower impellers 6, 7 in the respective tubes. Liquid is supplied and discharged through a nozzle 23 and gas is sucked from the overhead space 25 into the tube by vortex action to flow downward and mix them by impellers. The liquid level rises according to the reaction progress. At the level 17, the sucking, flowing and mixing of gas is carried out by the lower impeller 7 and at the level 19, the sucking, flowing and mixing of gas is performed by the upper and lower impellers 6, 7 and the gas-liquid mixture is discharged from the lower end of the lower draft tube 3. Various operations to mix gaseous hydrogen, gaseous oxygen and other industrial gases with liquids (for example: hydrogenation of nitrobenzene) are usefully performed using the mixing vessel in the broad range of liquid levels.
