An R/W device which has the IC card generates a management table for the IC card and answers to an inquiry about IC card information from other equipment on the home network. When an IC card manager is available, the IC card information is reported thereto and managed at one place. Equipment to reserve the use of the IC card informs the R/W device having the reservation management table and the IC card manager of a request to reserve the IC card and the R/W device or IC card manager refers to the reservation management table and registers the reservation in the reservation management table when the reservation can be made. When the reserved IC card is ejected from the R/W device, attention is drawn through notification or display. When the information is used, the user is authenticated upon occasion.
