PURPOSE: To suppress the vibration of an ignition coil and improve the durability of the ignition coil by installing the ignition coil at a prescribed position on the front surface of a cylinder block, in a spark ignition type engine which can be used in a Diesel engine.

CONSTITUTION: Ignition coils 6 in the number corresponding to the number of cylinders are installed at proper intervals along the horizontal direction through a bracket 5, at the position in the vicinity of the lower part of an intake manifold 3 and at the position in the vicinity where a fuel pump 4 is arranged when a spark ignition type engine is used as Diesel engine, on the front surface of a cylinder block 1 in which the intake manifold 3 is arranged on the front surface of a cylinder head 2. The bracket 5 is constituted of a nearly flat plate-shaped body part 5a and two installation parts 5b which are fixed on the surface of the body part 5a and have each nearly rectangular parallelepiped shape. As for a high voltage cord 9 whose one edge is connected with the ignition coil 6, wiring is carried out by allowing the other edge side to pass through the gap between the cylinder head 2 and the intake manifold 3.
