PURPOSE: To improve measuring sensitivity and accuracy of a degree of immunological reaction based on light intensity generated by an illuminating substance depending on evernescent wave components.
CONSTITUTION: An antibody 4b is fixed on a slab type light waveguide 4, antiβ-2 microgloblin antibody 4d with FITC 4e coupled as a fluorescent substance via polyalamine 4f as bridging agent is coupled by antigen-antibody reaction to an antigen 4c coupled to the antibody 4b by antigen-antibody reaction. Flat polarized light obtained by a polarizing plate 27 is led into the slab type light waveguide 4 as excitation light to excite FITC 4e strained in the vicinity of a surface of the light waveguide 4 by evernescent wave components, and polarized light components perpendicular to a polarizing plane of the above flat polarized light is extracted from light emitted from the slab type light waveguide 4 by a polarizing plate 33.
