To provide a small illumination device with which a wavelength of illumination light beams is switched easily.
A collect lens 3, an electric power supply section 102, a connector 103 and a power supply switch 105 are provided inside a lamp house 100. Moreover, the lamp house 100 has an illumination unit mounting section 104, to which either one of cassette type illumination units 106 and 106A is selectively mounted. The cassette-type illumination unit 106 is provided with a light-emitting diode 108, an illuminating circuit 109 which turns on the light-emitting diode and a connector 107 which supplies electric power by coupling with the connector 103 in the lamp house 100. The cassette type illumination unit 106A is provided with a light-emitting diode 108A, having a light emission wavelength which differs from the wavelength of the light-emitting diode 108 of the cassette-type illumination unit 106. The other structure is same as the structure of the cassette-type illumination unit 106.
