An image longitudinal lateral discrimination means 26 specifies whether each image to be composited is directed longitudinally or laterally depending on the longitudinal and lateral length of each image to be composited and stores number of images directed longitudinally and laterally. A template attached information read means 38 reads template attached information 56 and a retrieval means 40 retrieves templates having an image slot coincident with number of the images directed longitudinally and laterally decided by the image longitudinal lateral discrimination means 26. A template read means 36 reads the retrieved templates and a template selection menu displays the read templates. A user selects a desired template among the displayed templates. An image/template synthesis means 48 sets an image decided by the image selection menu to the image slot in the selected template while matching the direction of the image. A composite data display means 50 displays the result of compositing the template instructed by the user with the image on the template selection menu.
