To provide an image display apparatus and image display method, in which a desired image region in photographed video data can be normally displayed, if the video data contains distortion aberrations.

The image display apparatus displays video data 24, containing distortion aberrations and a planar reproduced image 29, resulting from correcting the distortion aberrations for video data in a display area 25, that is a desired image region in a portion of these video data 24 on a monitor 28 and in response to designating the display area 25, based on the video data displayed on the monitor 28, the distortion aberrations are corrected for the video data within the desired region.
