Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reproduce and display a video signal(VS) for a display screen whose aspect ratio is, e.g. 3:4 onto a liquid crystal display device with a laterally long TV screen whose aspect ratio is 9:16 by using part of image data in duplicate, thereby easily converting the aspect ratio through the use of a circuit of a simple configuration.
SOLUTION: This display device is provided with a signal processing circuit 4 supplying image data corresponding to each picture element of a video signal by using each of four adjacent display dots in the horizontal direction for a pseudo picture element E on a display screen of a liquid crystal display panel 1. The signal processing circuit 4 allocates image data in a color of each picture element in the video signal VS corresponding to each of three display dots in different colors of each pseudo picture element E and allocates image data corresponding to the remaining one display dot to the pseudo picture element to generate an internal video signal(INVS).
