PURPOSE: To connecting many screens seamlessly by irradiating a display surface by at least two rod type light sources which are much longer than plural liquid crystal displays.
CONSTITUTION: The rod type light sources 5 which are much longer than the liquid crystal displays 3 arrayed in the lengthwise direction of the light sources are used. Light emitted by the light source 5 has a uniform light distribution through a diffusion plate 4 and a reflecting plate 6 to irradiate the liquid crystal displays 3, and light passed through them is expanded through an optical fiber bundle 2 to more than the display area of the liquid crystal displays 3, thereby forming an image plane. At this time, the respective optical fiber bundles 2 are connected continuously to one another. Thus, the rod type light sources 5 are used and the light intensity of the light sources in the screen is controlled and made uniform. Consequently, the screen can be formed with inconspicuous seams.
