When an operation of creating a thumbnail picture list is made to an operation console (YES in S 301), an image file is searched from a data file stored in an external storage device of a personal computer and an unprocessed image file is indexed (S302). When there exists an unprocessed image file, data of the image file are read (S303), and a thumbnail picture is extracted (S304). Then a thumbnail picture is pasted to a prescribed address in an edit memory to composite a plurality of thumbnail pictures (S307).
