To allow a position of a side of a medium to be confirmed in a folded state.SOLUTION: A first image M1 is an image of a mark or the like formed on a part of a side E1 among surfaces on a +z side of a medium by an image formation unit 12. The first image M1 is an image different from a region in which, for example, the density, brightness, color tone, saturation and the like are in a determined range from a side E2. A medium arranged along an xy plane is folded by a folding unit 131 so as to form a fold F1. At this time, since the medium is folded such that the +z side of the fold F1 becomes a mountain side, the side E2 is overlapped with the side E1. Since the image formation unit 12 forms the first image M1 different from a region in a determined range from the side E2, a position of the side E1 is clearly specified from an image obtained by reading the medium in the folded state.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
