An image forming apparatus comprises: a screen display section configured to display a screen; a window display section configured to display a window when a window opening operation is performed; a history recording section configured to record an operation history specifying a predetermined operation and the time at which the operation is performed; and an animation display setting section configured such that when the window opening operation is performed, whether to display animation or not is set according to a predetermined setting rule based on the history of a period a predetermined time before the present time. In a case where an animation display is set, the window display section displays animation seen such that while a correlation between the window and the operation key corresponding to it is displayed, the window is opened after the passage of a transient state. In a case where no animation display is set, the window is displayed without displaying animation.
