The image forming apparatus includes a control unit 20 in which a power-saving mode switching section 203 switches the mode of the image forming apparatus to a power-saving mode when none of a plurality of processing sections of the image forming apparatus performs processing for a predetermined period of time, a return section 204 returns the mode of the image forming apparatus to a normal mode from the power-saving mode under a predetermined condition, a pre-energizing section 205 energizes each of the processing sections in advance when the mode of the image forming apparatus is returned to the normal mode, a process specifying section 202 specifies a process to be executed, and a stop section 208 selectively stops pre-energization of each of the processing sections based on the process specified by the process specifying section 202.
