The image forming apparatus comprising a sheet feeding means having a pair of members for regulating the widthwise position of a sheet is provided with a means for inputting the width dimension of an irregular shape sheet being mounted on the sheet feeding means, a sensor for detecting the position of the position regulating member, and a control means for operating an image formation starting position based on widthwise positional information of the position regulating member detected by the position detecting sensor or widthwise dimensional information of an irregular shape sheet inputted from an operating means.
