To provide an image forming apparatus capable of appropriately cutting a recording medium depending on a formation situation of an attached image, a method of controlling the image forming apparatus, and a program.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises an image forming unit that forms an image on a recording medium, a cutting unit that cuts the recording medium having the image formed thereon, and a control unit, in which the control unit stops, if cutting setting for cutting the recording medium at a predetermined first cutting position corresponding to an outer periphery of the image is performed, cutting the recording medium at the first cutting position by the cutting unit when attached image formation setting for forming a predetermined attached image, together with the image, outside the first cutting position, is performed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9
