Abstract:
To provide a technology to specify the location of failure in an apparatus.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: an image reading unit 213; a cleaning unit 206 that cleans the image reading unit 213; a motor 201 that rotates the cleaning unit 206; a torque adjustment unit 215 that adjusts torque of the motor 201; out-of-step detection units 204, 205 that detect out-of-step of the motor 201; a storage unit that stores a load torque pattern when the motor 201 is out of step for every location of failure; and a control unit that controls the motor 201. The control unit gradually reduces the torque of the motor 201 with the torque adjustment unit 215, detects the out-of-step of the motor 201 with the out-of-step detection units 204, 205, compares a load torque pattern when the out-of-step of the motor 201 is detected with the load torque pattern when the motor is out of step for every location of failure read out from the storage unit, and specifies the location of failure based on a result of comparison.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
