To render a character specified by a character code included in printable data.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus determines, with reference to a character code table, whether a specified character code being a character code included in printable data is supported by a specified font being a font specified by font specification information, when determining that the specified character code is a non-supported character code being a character code not supported by the specified font, determines, with reference to the character code table, whether there is an alternative font being a font that supports the non-supported character code, and when determining that there is the alternative font, renders a character specified by the non-supported character code by using the alternative font.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
