To provide a tandem system image forming apparatus and image forming method by which occurrence of a dash mark liable to occur in formation of a large number of color images is suppressed and lowering of image density and occurrence of image defects such as color difference are prevented, whereby color images having good sharpness and bright hue are reproduced.
In the image forming apparatus in which color toner images formed on an organophotoreceptor with different color toners in a plurality of respective image forming units are sequentially transferred in piles onto a recording material to form a color toner image and this color toner image is fused to form a color image, a surface layer of the organophotoreceptor contains a polycarbonate having a structural unit represented by a general formula (1) and an antioxidant.
