To provide an image forming apparatus where a cleaning means is formed to be as small-sized and compact as possible, and also which is effectively miniaturized as a whole.
The cleaning means 34 has an actuator 46 provided in a main body 35. The actuator 46 is the one using a piezoelectric element and is formed to be comparatively small. The cleaning member 36 is bonded to the end of the butting part 52 of the actuator 46 and provided integrally with the actuator 46. Since the cleaning means 34 is formed to be small-sized, it is arranged in narrow space between image carriers 10Y, 10M, 10C and 10K and an exposure line head. By moving the main body 35 in the extension direction of a lens 33 by the driving of the actuator 46, the cleaning member 36 bonded to the butting part 52 rubs and cleans the upper surface of the lens 33.
