To provide an image forming apparatus in which a low-power-consumption mode is provided to satisfy a fixing performance with a small current.
The image forming apparatus has: a fixing means having an image formation portion which forms an image on a recording medium; a heating body heating the formed image, and a pressure member; a heating body temperature detecting means; an environmental temperature detecting means; a driving motor for rotating the heating body and pressure member for sending and fixing the recording medium; a recording material temperature detecting means of detecting the temperature of the fixed recording material; a current detecting means of detecting a current supplied to the heating body; a plurality of fixation modes; and a plurality of process speeds. The apparatus is also equipped with a means of setting a limit value of the current supplied to the heating body according to a plurality of fixation mode settings and controlling the current supplied to the heating body so that a detected value detected by the current detecting means is less than the limit value, and switches the process speeds according to the set limit value.
