To provide an image forming apparatus capable of raising and lowering a conveyance unit without moving the same in a lateral direction, intending to enhance the positioning accuracy relative to a recording device, and carrying out the formation of a high quality image.

A printer 1 has a conveyance unit 30 arranged below the recording device to face the recording device 20 and adapted to convey the recording medium P, an elevator 40 provided with an eccentric cam 41 having a substantially horizontal rotary axial line, abutting on the conveyance unit 30 in an end portion spaced apart from the rotary axial line, and raising and lowering the conveyance unit 30 by the abutting portion slidingly moving in a horizontal plane following the rotation, and a guide mechanism 60 guiding the movement of the conveyance unit 30 in a vertical direction. Thus it is possible to prevent the lateral directional position deviation of the conveyance unit 30 when raising and lowering the conveyance unit 30 by the elevator 40.
