To provide an image forming apparatus independently including a black image forming section and color image forming sections, the image forming apparatus extending the life of a color photoreceptor by application of a lubricant thereto, allowing black toner to be recyclable, and preventing defects in image formation such as a void in an image detection pattern and deterioration in transfer ratio.
The image forming apparatus includes: an intermediate transfer device in which first image forming sections each comprising a plurality of image forming sections are arranged adjacent to each other and images are sequentially superposed and transferred from each of the image forming sections along the arrangement direction of the image forming sections of the first image forming section; and a transfer means which collectively transfers the images that have been superposed and transferred to transfer material. The image forming apparatus further includes a second image forming section which faces a secondary transfer belt and disposed downstream of the secondary transfer belt of the transfer means carrying out the batch transfer. The image forming apparatus having a mechanism for applying the lubricant only to the image carrier of the first image forming section is provided.
