The image forming apparatus having a printing unit for performing printing on a printing medium includes: an image input unit 1 for inputting image data; and a control unit in which, on the basis of image data inputted by the image input unit 1, a gamma thinning-out processing part 21 performs thinning-out processing based on a predetermined density conversion curve, on a region having less than a predetermined density, a pattern thinning-out processing part 33 performs thinning-out processing based on a checkered pattern, on a region having the predetermined density or more, and image data after thinning-out processing are output from an image output unit 4a. The printing unit prints an image obtained based on image data outputted by the control unit at least on one side of the printing medium.
