An image forming apparatus includes: a storage section which stores an inspection chart that is first data, to which position detection marks are attached as a reference of the position of an image read by an image reading section; an image formation section which forms the image of the inspection chart stored in the storage section; and a control section which performs control so that: the image of the inspection chart formed by the image formation section is read by the image reading section; a comparison is made between second data obtained by the image read by the image reading section and the first data; and if there is a failure in the image, a method for coping with the failure is displayed on a display section.
