Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of accurately detecting surface roughness of a recording material to be used, so as to perform fixation control in accordance with the surface roughness of the recording material to be used.SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: image reading means which irradiates a document with light from light-emitting means and reads an image of the document in accordance with reflection light; image forming means for forming an image on the recording material on the basis of read image information; and control means for controlling operations of the image reading means and the image forming means. The image forming apparatus has a surface roughness determination mode in which the recording material is irradiated with light from the light-emitting means before forming the image, and the surface roughness of the recording material is determined in accordance with the reflection light. When operating in the surface roughness determination mode, the control means changes a density range to be read by the image reading means to a brighter side than that in reading the image information, and determines the surface roughness of the recording material.
