Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide an image forming device which uses a metal halide lamp that does not generate conduction noise when power is input thereto and which can surely prevent any rush current that is transiently large.
CONSTITUTION: A bipolar contact type electromagnetic switch 3 and first and second electromagnetic switches 4, 5 are cascade-connected to one another between a metal halide lamp 6 and its driving power source 1, and a resistor 8 is connected in parallel to the second electromagnetic switch 5 and a temperature detecting element 82 is disposed inside the resistor 8. When the driving power source 1 is connected, timing control is performed to set the ON time of the second electromagnetic switch 5 later than that of the first electromagnetic switch 4 so as to restrain the large rush current of the metal halide lamp 6, and when the temperature detecting element 82 detects that the temperature of the resistor 8 is at or greater than a fixed value, switching control is performed to turn off the contacts 31, 32 of the bipolar contact type electromagnetic switch 3 to ensure the action to restrain the rush current.
