To provide an image forming device enabling to set an image writing timing for each scanning line without increasing cost and reducing the detecting accuracy of a laser beam.
The laser beam L1 is scanned and received by BD sensors 496, 497 which are arranged side by side at a certain space in a main scanning direction. Then, in one scanning period, laser beams L1, L2 to be received by the different BD sensors are scanned with on/off operation of laser beam sources LD1, LD2. A displacement between the emission positions of laser beams L1, L2 is detected as a time difference between the beam receiving timings of the BD sensors 496, 497. The time difference is utilized to set the image writing timing of the laser beam sources LD2. Assuming that the spot diameters of the laser beams L1-L4 are all the same and arrayed at a certain space in the main scanning direction, the image writing timings of the laser beam sources LD3, LD4 are set by utilizing a time difference between the image writing timings of the laser beam sources LD1, LD2.
