Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the occurrence of a gradation pattern when a toner image having a relatively low image area ratio is formed.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus is configured to form an alternating electric field in a secondary transfer nip by using, as secondary transfer bias, one comprising superposition bias obtained by superposing AC voltage on DC voltage, and includes a control unit that is configured to perform movement frequency adjustment processing of increasing the frequency of reciprocating movement of toner in the secondary transfer nip by changing a control parameter that affects the frequency of the reciprocating movement as the image area ratio of a toner image to be formed becomes lower. In particular, the control unit increases the frequency f as the control parameter as the image area ratio becomes lower.
