Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that can satisfactorily transfer, to a latent image carrier, a toner carried on an upper end part of a developer carrier corresponding to a non-exposure area when executing a forcible consumption operation.SOLUTION: In an image forming apparatus comprising a developing part that forms a portion with a reduced charging potential by exposing a latent image carrier with a uniformly charged surface and visualizes the portion with a developer carried on the developer carrier, transferring the visualized toner image to a transfer material or a transfer member transferring the toner image to the transfer material, and executing a forcible consumption operation to discharge a toner from the developing part and forcibly consume the toner, the width of a transfer area in a direction orthogonal to the direction of movement of the transfer member is larger than the width in the direction of rotational axis of the developer carrier in a developer carriable area; a transfer bias having a higher voltage value than that during an image forming operation is applied to the transfer member in a space between a surface portion of the latent image carrier and the transfer member within the width of the transfer area to which a toner is discharged when the forcible consumption operation is executed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
