PURPOSE: To prevent unnecessary agitation and to shorten the wait time up to the start of image formation by measuring the nonuse time of a developing unit and performing agitation only when the developing unit is not used for a specific time.
CONSTITUTION: A main body control part is provided with timers for respective color developing units 13aW13c. Then a time is set to a timer after copying operation which uses the corresponding developing unit is finished, and the timer counts down, so that the timer stops counting down when its contents become '0'. Namely, when the contents are '0', that indicates that the agitation is necessary. Namely, when a copy mode wherein a green developing unit is used is specified again and a copy key is pressed, the agitation processing is performed only when a specific time is elapsed after the value of the timer is '0', namely, after last copying operation is finished. Consequently, the time up to the start of image formation is shortened.
