PURPOSE: To obtain a good toner image irrespective of the thickness of a sheet member by providing a means for compensating the variation of a relative relation of the surface of the sheet member in a developing area, and a developer held on the surface of a developer holding means, which is caused by the variation of thickness of the sheet member to be used.
CONSTITUTION: A guide plate 150 is provided so as to be freely rotatable around the axial line of an axis 154. A compensating means 156 is provided with a cam plate 158 whichis made to press-contact with the other end part of the guide plate 150, and a driving means 160 such as a stepping motor for rotating this plate 158. The driving means 160 is turned by a signal from a control means, and the cam plate 158 is fixed to the axis 162. A gear 164 is fixed to the one end of the axis 162, and this gear 164 is meshed with a gear 166 fixed to the output axis of the driving means 160, therefore, the cam 158 is turned in the direction as indicated with an arrow 159 through the gears 166, 164 by being driven to turned by the driving means 160, and the guide plate 150 is rotated.
